PSYCHOSOCIAL REHABILITATION AND READAPTATION OF IDPs: EXPERIENCE OF CHERNIHIV PSYCHOSOCIAL ASSISTANCE SCHOOL

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out the effectiveness of rehabilitation and re-solicitation of IDPs, within the framework of the Psychosocial Assistance School, organized jointly with Department of organization of social-psychological assistance to the population of Chernihiv National Technological University. The program for the mastering of the author's rehabilitation complex focused on the innovative technology of paradox served as basic training course of the school. The curriculum also included a comprehensive study of the results obtained in three areas: the change in PTSD symptoms and the adaptability indicators of the participants; the change of indicators the mastering self-help and mutual assistance at the end of their studies and stability theirs skills three months after it completion. The case studies of three IDPs were conducted. Indicators of PTSD and adaptability were investigated according to certain methods at the beginning of studies, after the end and three months after it completion. Indicators self-esteem of self-help and mutual assistance skills and indicators self-esteem the quality of life were investigated twice - at the end of classes and three months after their completion. Accordingly to the three tests the dynamics of indicators of post-traumatic conditions and adaptive disorders was empirically attested. It is determined that the dynamics of these indicators is due to changes in personal and social life. The step by step growth of personal adaptive potential of participants was noted. Also, the acquisition of self-help skills and mutual assistance of IDPs, positive changes in the quality of their life at the end of their education and their improvement three months after its completion were determined. Our research allowed distinguished three main areas of practice and consolidation of acquired adaptive forms of behaviour in the process and after the completion of the course: 1) family communication; 2) mutual assistance in the community by method “peer-to- peer, and in NGO uniting IDPs; 3) the sphere of social self-realization at the place of work and public activity.
The conducted research has shown the need to develop projects for psychosocial support of IDPs to root the acquired skills of adaptive behaviour in a "hybrid peace". The research package proposed by the author is of practical importance for the study of the effectiveness of rehabilitation and re-adaptation programs for the recovery of vulnerable groups in the context of hostilities. The originality of the article is to study the effectiveness of the paradox technology, the use of a set of diagnostic methods, including an authoritative questionnaire for self-assessing changes in the quality of life of IDPs.
